Thank you to everyone who joined us for a very special evening on May 18 in Philadelphia!

Love to Langa co-founders, Amy and Jon Ostroff, received the 2019 Generosity Award from Sharon Katz and the Peace Train at their concert celebrating 25 years since Nelson Mandela's election.

We were thrilled that Board Member and project manager, Kissmea Adams, and Montessori project coordinator, Courtnay Lockhart-Ross, were able to join us from South Africa.
At a reception before the concert, Diane Force, school director of Bala House Montessori, spoke about the benefits of Montessori education and Board Members, Niti Sanghrajka, Dean Lipson and Zachary Parker gave an impassioned case for the impact of donations to our cause, including an overview of the project with our US architect, Nayan Shah.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of family and friends, we currently have donations and pledges totaling $160,000 - over half of our goal! Here is the donation page for more information: DONATE HERE

Congratulations to Love to Langa Co-Founder Jon Ostroff and our neighbor, Rich Zemble, for both losing 38 lbs on a weight bet! Jon had sponsors for his journey and has raised over $11,000 towards the Love to Langa Montessori School!

Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment

In 1994, South Africa elected its first democratic government which launched BBBEE
(Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment) in 2003 as a racially-selective
program to empower previously disadvantaged groups and enhance the economy.

Here’s why being B-BBEE Compliant is important:
1. If you want to engage with any kind of government body, your business or organization
will have to be 100% BEE compliant to do the following:
a. apply for a tender (an offer to do work or receive goods at a fixed price),
b. purchase a state-owned asset,
c. enter a public-private partnership.
2. Private companies that engage in business with each other may also reap the benefits of being BEE compliant through preferential procurement. Larger businesses are incentivized to do business with you because it improves their own B-BBEE score.
3. Being BEE compliant means you will not miss out on prospective business from companies wanting to deal with only BEE compliant companies. It could also mean you gain business from non-compliant competitors.
And lastly, if you have a B-BBEE Certificate you become eligible for grants and obtaining financing. You can also be a beneficiary of corporate supplier development initiatives.

Love to Langa CT has a Level 2 certificate because it is not 100% Black-owned but serves
100% Black beneficiaries (Black, Coloured and Indian.)

BIRTHDAY BLESSING

It's my birthday today and I can't believe I'm 52. Like most people do, I always take stock around my birthday. Am I where I wanted to be? Am I happy and fulfilled with my life?

I am so grateful to be able to say YES, I am, and that is in large part due to the encouragement and support of so many of you reading this newsletter. Thanks to your generosity, among other things, we have been able to renovate an orphanage, build a kindergarten classroom and an indoor heated learn to swim pool, fund transportation, academic and swim lesson scholarships, teacher training programs and field trips. Now, we are well on our way to building an innovative Montessori School in Langa Township, with our Montessori teacher training program in full force.

Thanks to the incredible dedication of our South African board member/project manager, Kissmea Adams, and project coordinator, Courtnay Lockhart-Ross, we are developing a relationship with Dr. Eric Atmore from University of Cape Town and the Centre for Early Childhood Development and we are thrilled that they have offered to assist with the registration process for our school. There are other exciting developments in the works as well, which we look forward to sharing over the coming months.

My birthday blessings are magnified by this beautiful community of like-minded people - my family, friends and board members. I love you all and thank you for joining together with me to make a difference.
